Fortynine Palms Oasis is one of five locations within Joshua Tree National Park supporting a grove of California Fan Palms. Water flowing through underground faults in the area, including the famous San Andreas fault, strikes impermeable rock and is forced to the surface to form free flowing oases. Fortynine Palms is a popular site to see bighorn sheep in the morning and to take a break from the heat during mid day.
