Freiburger Adelhauser Place in Snow
Baden-Wuerttemberg

During the 30 years war in 1644 the old convent of the Dominican nuns in the little village of Adelhausen just outside the gates of Freiburg was blown up to make space for new fortifications of Freiburg. So a new convent was built within the city walls. For a few centuries Freiburg belonged to Habsburg. Under the reign of Joseph II. contemplative convents were closed down. The Adelhauser convent was closed down in the 1780s. After that a school resided in the building until 1983. After that a museum for natural history was installed in the building. Alone the church reminds of the former use of the complex.
