Freixo Espada A Cinta Matriz, Igreja de Sao Miguel, capela mor
Portugal

Main Chapel: The altarpiece of the main chapel in national style, from the beginning of the century. XVIII during the reign of D. João V. The paintings and part of the decoration of an old altarpiece painted between 1520 and 1535, which was dismantled in the Baroque period, survive inside. His painter was probably a disciple of Grão Vasco. Altogether there are 16 small panels representing scenes from the life of the Virgin (Encounter at the Golden Gate, Annunciation, Nativity, Epiphany, Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, Escape to Egypt, Jesus among the doctors and Assumption of Mary) and the passion of Christ (Last Supper, Christ's Prayer in the Garden, Christ's Prison, Ecce Homo, Calvary, Lamentation of Christ, Resurrection and Pentecost).
