Gem Lake is located along one of the backcountry trails in Emigrant Wilderness, in the Stanislaus National Forest. The lake is about 10 miles (16 km) from the trailhead, at an elevation of 8230 feet (2508 m). The moderate hike to get out there is worth it-- and lots of people make their way out. Beautiful spot.
