Glendalough Monastic Settlement
Ireland

Glendalough (the valley of the two lakes) is the site of an early monastic settlement founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century.  These ruins reportedly date from between the 10th and 12th centuries.

The scenery is gorgeous and the history is rich.  With a very nice hotel located next to the monastery ruins, it is a place that really requires a multi-day stay to take it all in.
