Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta Temple, Bandipur National Park, Wild Elephants
Karnataka
Across on the hilltop is the famous Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta (betta is hill in Kannada) temple (temple of Lord Venugopala Swamy) built seven centuries ago. This is one of the highest peaks in the Chamarajnagar district, It rises to a height of 1454 meters above sea level and is covered with fog most the year. Herds of wild elephants often frequent this area and on this day, far below in the valley there is a mother and baby.
