1939年秋，此幢楼竣工，当时门牌号编为红岩嘴13号（1945年改为红岩村13号）。大楼座落在“大有农场”西北坡上，外看二层，实为三层的深灰色大楼，占地800平方米，为土木穿逗结构，两楼一底，有大小房间54间。
1958年，以此楼为主体的红岩革命纪念馆建立并对外开放。
1963年3月，国务院公布此楼为全国第一批重点文物保护单位。
