A Rainy Spring Day at Horsetail Falls on the Richardson Highway in Alaska
Alaska

In Keystone Canyon, about 17 1/2 miles out of Valdez along the Richardson Highway, Horestail Falls Creek cascades down a rock cliff before merging with the Lowe River. The road here parallels the original "Military Road" or the "Goat Trail" which was cleared just over 100 years ago. It was an important trail that both the military and gold miners followed to take them from the coast into the Alaska Interior.

This panorama was made in spring on a rainy day. In summer the falls are flanked by thick green alder bushes and in the winter, the falls freeze solid enough to attract ice climbers.
