The new Isala Hospital building located in Zwolle was designed from both a highly dedicated medical-technical and health stimulating human perspective. The 108.000 square metres are spatially divided into 4 buildings called butterflies, due to their plan shape, with lush Atrium gardens. The Isala hospital was designed by the collaborating a/d amstel and Alberts & Van Huut architects offices (AMI Associated Dutch Healthcare Architects) and their design team partners.
This is Butterfly 1, the smallest butterfly, housing Central Sterilization, and hospital labs. It is only accessible for hospital staff. Not being glazed, here the atrium has become garden, to provide the building's heart and focus.
