Italy. Tuscany. Siena. The Church of Santa Maria dei Servi.
Tuscany
The Basilica of Santa Maria dei Servi is a Roman Catholic church in the Romanesque style in the Terzo San Martino in the city of Siena. *** It is located on a hill on the southeastern outskirts of the city - from here there are excellent views of the city, its cathedrals, palazzos and other attractions. The basilica itself is also very interesting - red brick, with a simple façade and a high bell tower, austere and at the same time majestic. *** The Basilica of Santa Maria dei Servi belonged to the Servite order - one of the mendicant orders that originated in Florence and in the 1250s appeared in Siena. The Servites settled outside the city walls, but the Servite temple was still built within the city, on the site of a small chapel. The construction took almost three centuries, which is why the appearance of the basilica shows features of different styles. The basilica was consecrated in 1533.
