Looking at remaining building facades at the ghost town of Candelaria, Nevada, site of a silver boom that started in 1879 & lasted to 1941. Prior to that, the area was discovered to have silver deposits by Mexican prospectors in 1864. Today the site remains seldom visited w/ an old cemetery nearby, some more recent open mining pits are located close nearby but are off limits. Some of the immediate hills nearby along Candelaria Mountain comprise volcanic basalt. The location was also famous for the Great Nevada Meteor which exploded over the town on February 1, 1894.
