Lamego, Cathedral, crossing of transept
Portugal

The Lamego Cathedral, built from successive stages, is one of the most emblematic historical monuments in the entire Douro region. It was founded in 1129. It is a cathedral of Roman origin which, on the initial route, received Gothic additions, others already Manueline, it maintains the original Romanesque square tower although it was transferred from the side where in the century. The Cloister was built in the 16th century, but the rest of the architecture reflects the changes made in the 16th and 18th centuries, to the body of the church and chancel, including a Renaissance cloister with a dozen well proportioned arches.
