Lower Nankoweap Beach
Arizona
The lower river camp at Nankoweap Creek is a very desirable camp site for river boaters. The beach is formed by the large eddy below the rapids and the Nankoweap Creek delta. The camp site is large and can handle easily the maximum load of 16 rafters. The shoreline is beach for a more than a quarter mile. The water is shallow and allows for wading and a quick wash to remove a couple days of dirt and grime. The beach at the camp is in the sun most of the day but the tent sites are almost all shaded by trees. It is within easy hiking distance to the famous Nankoweap Granaries high on the talus slope just below the cliffs of Nankoweap Mesa. River boating trips often spend a layover day here because it is such a comfortable place to lie back and take in the beauty.
