The Rio Mira is one of the few rivers in Portugal that flows to North. With about 130 km length, it starts in the Serra do Caldeirão, and flows into Vila Nova de Mil Fontes. It crosses the yellow plain, also called the cereal steppe, and the last 32 km, from Odemira to the mouth, are part of the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina.
The water is clean, the river narrows and we are noticing the change in the very diverse vegetation. The large number of birds is one of the attractions of the last kilometers of the river Mira.
During the summer months it is possible to take a boat trip between Vila Nova de Milfontes and Odemira on the river that is one of the least polluted in Europe.
