Out of this World

Old panorama was made 150 years ago from the Cathedral of the Christ the Savior in 1867. At this time Moscow was predominantly a two-three-story city, bounded by the outposts of the Kamer-Kollezhskiy valleys (on the map below is marked in red). The names of outposts to the present day has survived in the names of the squares.

The city, although already with the developing industry, still retains a completely pre-reformed view of the "big village". The viewer can find on his own a lot of houses and churches, valuable in historical and architectural respect. The figures on the old panorama are decoded in the list at the top.

Well known Russian maecenas  Nikolai Alexandrovich Naydenov (1834-1905) has financed publiсation of 14 albums, containing 680 photographs. For the first time, the Russian capital was so visibly and comprehensively represented in them.

This is the first and the most large-scale panorama of Moscow for those years, which made it possible to convey to our days the unique image of the city of that time.

More About Out of this World

The planet Earth has proven to be too limiting for our awesome community of panorama photographers. We're getting an increasing number of submissions that depict locations either not on Earth (like Mars, the Moon, and Outer Space in general) or do not realistically represent a geographic location on Earth (either because they have too many special effects or are computer generated) and hence don't strictly qualify for our Panoramic World project. But many of these panoramas are extremely beautiful or popular of both. So, in order to accommodate our esteemed photographers and the huge audience that they attract to 360Cities with their panoramas, we've created a new section (we call it an "area") called "Out of this World" for panoramas like these.Don't let the fact that these panoramas are being placed at the Earth's South Pole fool you - we had to put them somewhere in order not to interfere with our Panoramic World.Welcome aboard on a journey "Out of this World".

It looks like you’re creating an order.
