The last Orange Tree Orchard in Silicon Valley
The Bay Area

San Jose, in the heart of Silicon Valley

This scene which shows the old and new silicon valley. Before the transistor was invented this area was all fruit farms and orchards. Then in the 1950's as technology developed and companies moved in it became silicon valley. This panorama shows what is possibly the last fruit tree orchard in silicon valley. The neighbours for this farmer include Canon and Altera to the south, CISCO Networking headquarters to the east, a large apartment complex to the north, and Polycom to the west. It is literally just a small island of a farm inside the heart of silicon valley's tech companies.

Most of silicon valley is very flat and at near sea level, but in the distance to the east you can see the mountains and hills that surround the valley, and if you had a very keen eye you could see a little snow on the top of some of these hills from a recent storm. Even though Silicon valley is a very developed and urban sprawl you don't need to travel far to see countryside, hills and the California coast including Santa Cruz and the famous highway 1.

Lots of ammenities, tours and hotels can be found all around the area.San Francisco is the cultural and financial center of the Bay Area, and has the second highest population density of any major city in North America after New York City. It is also a major tourist destination, and transport and accommodation is plentiful, ranging from luxury hotels to cheap accommodation. San Jose is the largest city in terms of population, land area, and industrial development, and is the center of Silicon Valley, a well-known high technology region. Oakland is a major manufacturing and distribution center, rail terminus/hub, and has the fourth largest container shipping port in the United States.Largely because of San Francisco and Silicon Valley, the Bay Area presently ranks second only to the much larger New York City region in number of Fortune 500 company headquarters (April 2010 Fortune Magazine).  source: wikipedia
