Skallingen is new land formed by The North Sea within the last 300-400. The 10 x 3 km peninsula has been designated a natural scientific reference area and is worth a visit. But be aware still today some of the land and the roads can be flooded in periods with strong wind from west. Every year visitors are caught by the water and have to leave their cars and search for dry land in the higher parts.
