The Central Tower on Market Street
San Francisco
Originally the Call Building, this was one of the city's early steel-frame skyscrapers, 300 feet tall. It survived the 1906 earthquake, but was gutted by the subsequent fire. The ornate dome (similar to the Humboldt Bank Building) and other decoration were removed when it was renovated.
