Polonnaruwa Ruins, Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka
Polonnaruwa extends over 122 hectares and features many well-preserved monuments. In general, the architectural style shows Indian influence. Most of the monuments are religious, although there are also civil buildings, such as the royal council chamber. It is surrounded by the Prakrama Samudra Reservoir, an artificial lake built by King Prarakamabahu in the 12th century.
