R4 Kaohsiung International Airport Station
Kaohsiung

The Kaohsiung International Airport Station is the gateway for international travelers.  Its public art planning has blended the following themes into its architecture as early as the initial designing phase: blue sky, ocean, and the MRT.  Catching natural skylight using its architecture to showcase the oceanic appeal of Kaohsiung, it is composed using 10,220 pieces of emerald colored glass, after the design of the 3D glass sculpture "Emerald Laminata" that renowned artist Lutz Haufschild created.

Through the shifting of light, it exhibits the bearing of this oceanic city of Kaohsiung.

Water is the origin of life, and it is also significant to the confidence that Kaohsiung residents entrusted in the City.  Master Haufschild thus took "water and power" as his inspiration, converting the depth of the tumbling waves, the transformation of the shifting silhouette of flowing water, and the poetic romance of the waterfall into two walls measuring 15 meters by 3.5 meters.  Pieces of jade green glasses were cut into wavy shapes then glued together, as if the surface of the a lake plastered placed onto the a wall.

Such an awe-inspiring feeling gives the illusion that one is back to the nature.  Walking between the two walls, one's heart flows with the waves, and begins a wondrous journey.
