When War borke out between the Boer Republics and the British Forces in South Africa, England contracted a series of Blockhouses to protect their lines of supply from the Cape Colony. Roughly 8000 of these fortifications were built during the war with Barbed wire between them spanned around 5000 km to try and counter the guerilla-tactics of the Boer commandos. The Blockhouses were manned by 50 000 British troops with their time mostly spent in utter boredom. The Sentinel Blockhouse at Burgersdorp in the Eastern Cape is a lovely example of a well-preserved Anglo Boer War Blockhouse.
