Staffa - Near Fingal's Cave, View 1
Scotland
Staffa is a small island of the Inner Hebrides. It lies about 9 kilometers west of Mull and 9 kilometers northeast of Iona. The must amazing feature of the island are the huge hexagonal basalt columns one can clearly see when approaching by boat. These columns also form the walls of the caves on Staffa. The most famous cave is Fingal's Cave. This cave was one of the inspirations for Mendelssohn Bartholdy when he wrote the Hebrides Overture. Listen closely to the overture and you can hear the waves of the sea.
