Chimney Rock [1]
California

A historic site located today next to the railroad tracks near Alturas, California, Chimney Rock is a sandstone pillar that has an old chimney stack carved out of it, part of Thomas A. Denson's cabin back in 1871.  Graffiti is also abundant, some dating clear back to the 1880s.  This formation as well as others in this concentrated area almost remind me of the Tent Rocks in New Mexico.  The nearby plaque says the following:

Chimney Rock

Site of pioneer cabin built by Thomas A. Denson in 1871

This marker is dedicated to the pioneers of Modoc County by Alturas Parlor 159 Native Daughters of the Golden West
