The Brest Fortress The Brest Fortress 30
Belarus

Brest fortress was built in the 30 – early 40-ies of the XIX century at the junction of the rivers the Western bug and Mukhavets on the site of the old Brest. During construction, the entire town was moved to the new territory to the East of the citadel.

The fortress was located on 4 Islands formed by arms of the rivers Mukhavets and Western bug river and canal system.

In the center of the fortress is the Citadel, or Central enhancement, which is connected by bridges with 3 artificial island fortifications. This:

Kobrin fortification (North-East side)

Terespolska strengthening (West side)

Volyn fortification (South-Eastern island)
