The ruins of Strome Castle, Wester Ross
Scotland

Strome Castle was built during the 1400s to watch over a strategic ferry crossing across the Strome Narrows, near the mouth of Loch Carron. Fierce inter-clan rivalry saw it change hands many times.

It was ultimately captured from the MacDonalds by the Mackenzies in 1602. They promptly demolished it to prevent its further use as a fortification.
