Twin Sisters at Wallula Gap on the Columbia River
USA
These striking basalt towers overlooking the Wallula Gap on the Columbia River have been landmarks since prehistoric times. Native Americans built legends to explain them. Geologists note that they were probably scoured out of the ridge top by the Missoula Floods near the end of the ice age.
