Viana do Castelo, Praca da Liberdade, aerial
Portugal

In this part of the Polis project we have 3 building blocks, The Municipal Library designed by Architect Alvaro Siza Vieira, in the center the Administrative buildings of Architect Fernando Távora, and on the right the Pavilion Multiusos of Architect Souto Moura, the last phase built 2008-2013. The Praça da Liberdade that Távora projects serves as the finishing line of the Avenida dos Combatentes axis, also forming the anchor space of the new riverside front. The notion of square acquires here a sense of place associated with a modern language given by the parallel implantation of pavilions in an unclosed space, instilling a sense of sacred space.
