Vinhais, Casa da Vila, Aerial, Braganca
Portugal

Casa da Vila is in the historic center of Vinhais and houses the Interpretative Center of the Montesinho Natural Park. However, it has a history that goes far beyond its current role. The house belonged to Lieutenant Horácio Assis Gonçalves, Oliveira Salazar's private secretary. On the other hand, it has the particularity that the building was built on top of the old castle walls. Later he bought land and created the garden that can be visited. It has an excellent view of the Trás-os-Montes landscape. It uses the walls as a boundary, it has several stone constructions, tile panels and a fountain. The house was built in 1930 and it is interesting to see how they took advantage of the castle walls. Part of the walls serve as support. In other compartments the walls serve as a wall. The use of the walls as a wall is interesting. The width of the structure made it possible to build a wood oven and skylight with great depth.
