Zwartsluis is a Dutch village and a Dutch port in the municipality Zwartewaterland, Overijssel, located at the junction of the Zwarte Water and the Meppelerdiep. In 1398 the port Swarte Sluys was mentioned for the first time. Zwartsluis has been a transit port for peat from Drente direction Holland. Today the port is mainly used by recreationists and one finds employment in shipbuilding. Between 1765 and 1798 Zwartsluis was the place where a wide area many Jewish families their newborn boys were circumcised. In the preserved circumcision register his place as Dwingeloo, Lemmer, Kampen and Blokzijl found.
