R9 Central Park Station
Kaohsiung

The Central Park Station is next to the former President Department Store and Shinkuchan Shopping Area.  It is combined with the Formosa Boulevard and Yujhu Shopping Area reconstruction project, formed into a gathering place of the teenage subculture.  Under the forces of multi-dimensional cultures, it has also become the characteristics of this area.  Thus "Modern Kaohsiung" has become the featured concept of the Central Park Station.

In order to give the station more character, renowned British architect Richard Rogers was invited to blend the station into the integral planning of the Central Park.  Sunlight and serenity of the park was drawn downward into the station, and the building reaches 3 levels underground.  Blending together with the flowing water and the vegetation, travelers can feel the breezy freshness once they leave the central hall of the station.  In order to showcase the majestic presence of the station, the entrance utilizes a delicate structure coupled with metallic material, fully extending structural mechanics and aesthetics.  All of this brought out the design concept of soaring in the air, as if declaring the City itself taking flight.
With a price tag of over NT$ 100 million, "Flying" is a rain shelter that is a seamless steel-sheet structure.  With a delicate structure and metallic materials, it fully extends structural mechanics and aesthetics.  All of this brought out the design concept of soaring in the air, as if declaring the City itself taking flight.
