Angkor Wat is the largest Hindu temple complex in the world. The temple was built by King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century in Yasodharapura , the capital of the Khmer Empire, as his state temple and eventual mausoleum. Breaking from the Shaivism tradition of previous kings, Angkor Wat was instead dedicated to Vishnu. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious centre since its foundation – first Hindu, dedicated to the god Vishnu, then Buddhist. The temple is at the top of the high classical style of Khmer architecture. It has become a symbol of Cambodia, appearing on its national flag, and it is the country's prime attraction for visitors.
吳哥窟位於柬埔寨西北部，它是吳哥古跡中，保存得最完好的的廟宇，以建築宏偉與浮雕細緻聞名於世，也是世界上最大的印度教廟宇。1992年，聯合國將吳哥窟古跡列入世界文化遺產，吳哥窟已經成為柬埔寨國家的標誌，展現在柬埔寨國旗上。十二世紀的吳哥王朝國王蘇利耶跋摩二世希望在平地興建一座規模宏偉的石窟寺廟，作為吳哥王朝的國都和國寺。因此舉全國之力，並花了大約35年建造。
