During a trip to Arthur's Pass we came across these amazing boulders sitting on the hills on the side of the valley the highway went through. The area is known as "Castle Hill" and there's a convenient parking lot for stopping and nice walk out to the rocks. You can then climb up and around on the boulders.
There's a nice flat area on top of the boulders near the highest point which provides a nice view of the valley and the pasture where some cows and sheep are grazing.
Unfortunately, clouds moved in shortly after our arrival and it took away a lot of the light which really highlighted the rocks. I would love to go back someday and re-shoot some panoramas on a nice day. But, the two panoramas still give you a feeling of what it's like to visit this place. Definitely worth a stop and a nice way to stretch your legs a bit after the long drive from Christchurch.
