A pioneering adventure that began on April 7, 1924 and ended on June 20 of the same year. The plane Pátria left Vila Nova de Milfontes in Alentejo, Portugal, bound for Macau. There were 74 days of navigation, with several stops along the daring route. It was the first air crossing between Portugal and Macau, which marks one of the greatest feats of Portuguese aviation, carried out by Brito Pais, Manuel Gouveia and Sarmento Beires. To commemorate this historic feat, the Aviators Monument was erected in Largo de Brito Pais, next to the São Clemente Fort, in Vila Nova de Milfontes.
