Catalina Crash Site, Malabar Ridge, Lord Howe Island
Pacific Ocean Islands

In 1948, a RAAF Catalina Flying Boat crashed on Lord Howe Island at night, while attempting an emergency landing. The plane impacted on this place on Malabar Ridge, then tumbled through the bush down to some paddocks behind Old Settlement Beach. The plane burst into flames, 7 of 9 crew members were killed, amazingly 2 survived. The plaque commemorating this event can be seen in the picture, a large digitally enhanced version of the plaque can be seen when turning to the bottom of the panorama.
