Foghorn at Mull of Galloway
Scotland
The Mull of Galloway lighthouse sits 99 metres above sea level at the southernmost tip of Scotland. Built by the Scottish civil engineer Robert Stevenson in 1830, the famous foghorn was introduced in the 1900s. The original paraffin engine was replaced by three Kelvin diesel engines in 1955. These remain in situ although the foghorn itself was decommissioned in 1987.
