Lötschental is a well-known German-speaking valley parallel to the main valley of the Valais. Well-known for hiking in summer and skiing in winter time. Blatten is the highest inhabited part of the Lötschental valley at an elevation of 1,540 m (5,050 ft).
During carnival week, "Tschäggätta" (frightful figures wearing grotesque masks) can be seen in the Lötschental.
