Matsushiro Underground Imperial Headquarters(3)
Japan

I believe that "Matsushiro Underground Imperial Headquarters" is a war site that shows what happens when a country's leaders fall into the wrong mindset of "there are things that should be prioritized over the lives of citizens".

This massive trench was built for the purpose of relocating the government center and the Imperial Palace from Tokyo during the final phase of the war.

In fact, Japan surrendered before this trench could function.

However, if these trenches had actually been used during the war, they would have seen more civilian casualties and a more extensive scorched-earth situation.

What was the purpose for the country's leaders (military) to build these trenches and continue the war? It was none other than "to preserve the position of the Emperor of Japan". However, the continuation of the war was prevented by the Emperor's decision to "accept unconditional surrender".

As a result of the "unconditional surrender," sure, "many tragedies" that might have followed could have been avoided. However, "many tragedies" were created before then. Many cities were burned. Many people died who did not have to die. In the course of the war, a lot of hatred and discrimination were born. It should be noted that tragedies were also born during the construction of this trench. (For the construction of this trench, many Koreans were brought in as laborers from the Korean Peninsula, which was then a Japanese colony. Many victims were said to have been killed in the poor conditions.)

Also, in the Battle of Okinawa, the Japanese army continued to resist for a long time, involving many civilians. (The casualties and tragedy of the citizens at this time are still handed down.) This battle has the aspect of buying time for the construction of the Matsushiro Imperial General Headquarters.

I do not know what the photographs shown here will make the people who see them think.  (In the first place, few people will even look at this photo.)

But I want you to recognize from this picture.

There are traces here of the existence of a "madness that ignored the sacrifices of its citizens and even risked the destruction of the country".

More About Japan

The eight islands of Japan sprang into existence through Divine Intervention. The first two gods who came into existence were Izanagi no Mikoto and Izanami no Mikoto, the Exalted Male and Exalted Female. It was their job to make the land for people to live on.They went to the bridge between heaven and earth and, using a jewel-encrusted halberd, Izanagi and Izanami churned up the sea into a frothy foam. As salty drips of water fell from the tip of the halberd the first island was formed. Its name was Onogoro. So far, so good. But when Izanagi and Izanami first met on their island, Izanami spoke to Isanagi without being spoken to first. Since she was the female, and this was improper, their first union created badly-formed offspring who were sent off into the sea in boats. The next time they met, Izanagi was sure to speak first, ensuring the proper rules were followed, and this time they produced eight children, which became the islands of Japan.I'm sure you did not fail to miss the significance of this myth for the establishment of Japanese formal society. At present, Japan is the financial capital of Asia. It has the second largest economy in the world and the largest metropolitan area (Tokyo.)Technically there are three thousand islands making up the Japanese archipelago. Izanagi and Izanami must have been busy little devils with their jewelled halberd...Japan's culture is highly technical and organized. Everything sparkles and swooshes on silent, miniaturized mechanisms. They're a world leader in robotics, and the Japanese have the longest life-expectancy on earth.Text by Steve Smith.
