From ox pasture to historical heritage 1364
The largest new housing estate in Zwolle has been named Stadshagen. Along the edge runs a raised bicycle and walking path with a special view. Stadshagen is built in the Polder Mastenbroek. From this point you have a view of the oldest rectangularly parcelled polder in the Netherlands. This polder is part of the National Landscape IJsseldelta.
It is a unique area with perpendicular and staggered roads at intersections and a fixed distance of 2250 meters between the waterways. The watercourses were originally the transport routes for (milk and livestock) products.
The oldest of the polder's watercourses was connected via Rademakerszijl (1365) to the Zwarte Water and in those days meat and milk products, among other things, were traded in Zwolle.
