Ramparts Trail Overlook, Cedar Breaks National Monument, Utah, USA
Utah

Cedar Breaks is a natural amphitheater at the edge of the Markagunt plateau, falling down and away from the plateau in spires, hoodoos and narrow canyons.  It is difficult for plants to gain a foothold both because of the steep aspect of the canyon walls and because of the soft sediments and clay, which swell and contract with water.

This picture was taken near the head of the  Ramparts Trail, accessed from the main parking lot at the visitor's center.
