The Socerb castle was built in the 15th century and fell into ruins after a lightning strike caused a fire in 1780. It is located on a 350 m high Karst rock cliff, offering a megnificent view over the bay of Trieste.
Both the seaports of Trieste in Italy and Koper in Slovenia can be seen from the vantage point next to the castle where this panorama was photographed. The snow-covered peaks of the Alps can be seen on the northern horizon.
