September 2000 this Bluff became quite famous following a massive cliff collapse. Some video was captured here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mF6NM-V1IEU some of the rocks and debris settled on the river bed and added to the ferocious Nevis Bluff Rapids shown in the previous pano. There is always a sense of trepidation driving past this Bluff. The rockfall closed the road for weeks closing one of only three roads into Queenstown. Every year there is significant blasting of the rockface and surveying to make sure another collapse isn't around the corner but I wouldn't want to be driving on that road in an earthquake!
