Kaohsiung Municipal Cultural Center
Kaohsiung

Opened in 1981, the Kaohsiung Municipal Cultural Center serves as the main site for artistic and cultural events in the City.  It sits on an area of 13 hectares, with a solemn yet simple appearance.  The Center is a multi-purpose commemorative building, and it includes the Chih-Mei Gallery, the Chih-Chen Gallery, Gallery I, Gallery II, the Ya Gallery, which are mainly used for art exhibitions, and the Chih-The Hall, the Chih-Shan Hall, and an outdoor amphitheater for a variety of performances and public gatherings.  It is an important location for residents to participate in various leisure activities and the City's portal to the arts.

Surrounding the Cultural Center is the "Art Boulevard", which shapes a liberating and unique space.  The pavement is lined with artistic public benches, steel sculptures, mosaics and other trendy art installations.  It has become a case study in "City Aesthetics" for other major cities in Taiwan.
