A rear view of the Gallarus Oratory, County Kerry
Ireland

The Gallarus Oratory is the best preserved early Christian church in Ireland. The dry stone structure was built using corbelling techniques, where stones are laid at a slight angle, lower on the outside than the inside to allow water to run off.

The method was first developed by Neolithic tomb makers, which has made it difficult to date exactly when it was erected. Estimates range from sometime between the 6th and 12th centuries.
