Applegate Trail in High Rock Canyon
Nevada

The Applegate Trail was billed as the ‘safer’ alternative to the treacherous rapids of the Columbia River.  Thousands of emigrants passed through the narrow High Rock canyon between 1846 and 1860.  The trail was particularly significant in settling the Rogue River Valley, and served as a primary route to the northern California gold fields.
