Assay Office - Vulture Mine
Arizona

Gold was discovered here in 1863 and the Vulture Mine operated until 1942. During its heyday the population of the town, Vulture Mine City, was around 5,000.

The mine was closed in 1942 and is now privately owned.

Approximately $200,000,000 worth of gold was extracted from the mine during its operation.

Unlike many other 'ghost towns' this one has not been 'pretties up' for the tourists.
