1259 durch Konrad von Kalham errichtet und 1301 von diesem an Erzbischof Konrad von Salzburg verkauft. Bis ins 16. Jahrhundert verwalteten die erzbischöflichen Pfleger den Gerichtssprengel Wartenfels und sorgten für Schutz der Salzburger Landesgrenze gegen das bayrische Mondseeland.
