St. Katherine's Monastery in the Sinai peninsula attracts a lot of visitors from around the world. Many people combine the visit with a hike up the holy Mount Sinai, also called Moses Mountain, which can be seen to the South-West. It is said that Moses received the 10 commandments on top of this mountain. The hike to the peak, more than 2200m high, takes 3 to 4 hours and is quite strenuous, so the local Bedouins provide camels for those who can not complete it on their own.
