Edith Cavell Pond overlook
Montagnes Rocheuses - Alberta

Overlook of the massive face of Mt. Edith Cavell (elev. 3,363m) in Jasper National Park, Alberta.  Edith Cavell Glacier & Pond are at the base, access to the lakeshore was closed after an iceberg calved from the pond generating a tidal wave which sent a flood down the valley below & damaged the trail in August 2012, the scar from the effect plainly visible today.  The Angel Glacier is far receded as evidenced from the lateral moraine which extends all the way down to the parking lot for the trailhead.  Now a picturesque waterfall is seen from the glacier toe disappearing into the talus to the iceberg pond.  The North Face of Edith Cavell has had a notable first ascent from iconic climber Fred Beckey in 1961.
