This panorama shows a famous pageant, that's called "Trachten und Schützenumzug". This traditional costume and marksman’s procession takes place on every first sunday of the Oktoberfest in Munich. It has been held the first time in 1835. Since 1950 it is organized regularly. Over 9000 participants walk through the city, slowly approaching the Oktoberfest. Along their way thousands of spectators watch musicians, costume and dance groups, riflemen and other performers. The participants are mostly from Bavaria, but also from other European countries.
Munich is the capital of the German state of Bavaria and is Germany's third largest city, located on the River Isar north of the Bavarian Alps. Black and gold - the colors of the Holy Roman Empire - have been the city's official colors since the time of Louis IV, Holy Roman Emperor.
