Gozne Fortress Toroslar Vr Mersin 14c
Turkey
The fortress, which is visible on the high rock mass at the entrance of Gözne Neighborhood, about 29 km to the north of Mersin, is composed of two separate structures. The structure in the east is a rectangular building with four towers, one in the south and three in the north. The entrance is positioned in the west. The threshold is about one meter above the ground level. A vaulted arch covers the building. The structure in the west is a hexagonal tower with three windows and two doors. The roof is divided into two with an arch covering the roof. The roof on the west of the arch has three triangular faces. The fortress, the eastern face of which is made of pointed vaults, is dated to the Middle Age. Along with the nearby Belenkeşlik and Sinap Fortresses, it is on the road to one of the greatest fortresses of the region, Çandır Fortress, and it must have been built to control this road. Environmental planning of the fortress has been completed and it can be visited throughout the year by tourists in exchange for an admission fee.
